Buzz Rickson's M-51 US Army Field Jacket - Olive Drab
If it's good enough for Elvis, it's good enough for us! Many of you will recognise this new offering from Japanese giants of military reproduction, Buzz Rickson's, as the iconic M-51 field jacket. This is the older brother to the much loved M-65, and embodies many of the same design features, with a few nuanced differences. The shape is a standard fit, not too loose and not too slim, and very easy to move in. A drawstring has been featured at the waist for the wearer to adjust the shape, and buttoned cuffs allow for protection from the wind. In place of the zipper hooded collar, we find a row of custom made mil spec buttons, which would have been used to attach a winter hood. Pleated sleeve backs allow for a comfortable fit in the arm and superb range of movement, while the iconic four popper front pockets are there for convenience.
Never ones to shy away from the finer details, the brand have featured period correct stencils to mark the size and length, and have also lined this jacket with a set of buttons which would have been used to attach a winter liner. This offering from the brand is a great example of why we love them so much here at Son of a Stag, as it pairs brilliant craftsmanship with vintage design, and an unwavering standpoint on quality.
